Opera event benefits animal rescue charities SOURCE: Bradenton Herald Posted Wed, Jan. 18, 2006 RICHARD DYMOND, Herald Staff Writer EAST MANATEE - When a neighbor learns that Carol Sparrow is a professional opera singer who performs internationally, the invariable request is, "Please, sing something." To which the Mote Ranch resident unleashes her mezzo soprano into a soaring, "Sommmthinnggg!" While Carol and her husband, Randy Locke, who is also a professional opera singer, have a keen sense of humor, the one thing they take with complete seriousness is the welfare of animals. For the fourth year in a row, Sparrow and Locke, who met when they were Corbett Scholarship recipients at the Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati in 1978, will host "Opera For Animals, Singing is Savings," the musical event they created to benefit area animal rescue charities. This year's program, scheduled for 6 p.m. March 10 at the Palm-Aire Country Club, will include Sparrow and Locke singing selections from "Phantom of the Opera," "West Side Story," "Showboat," "Student Prince," "Samson and Delilah," "Carmen" and others. The couple hopes to raise $3,500 for Pelican Man Bird's Sanctuary, Alley Cat Rescue, Peace River Ranch and Refuge and others, Sparrow said...
